Welcome to the Wichita Fencing Academy - Online!

The Wichita Fencing Academy is a non-profit organization dedicated to education in the art and sport of fencing.  We offer instruction in both Foil and Epee for students ages 6 and above.

Founded in 1958, the Wichita Fencing Academy is the oldest continuously operated fencing club in the state of Kansas.

Fencing, the art of swordsmanship, has been practiced for centuries. First it was to train for deadly combat - the duel. Now, it is for Olympic Gold.

Through fencing you can acquire the reflexes of a boxer, the legs of a high-jumper and the concentration of a tournament chess player. The sport develops agility, strength, speed, and cunning. And because of the speed of its action, fencing is considered to be the fastest martial sport. But most importantly, it's fun!

Fencers compete in three separate disciplines; foil, epee, and saber. Each event uses a different sword, specific target areas, and has special rules. Fencers, can compete in several different events, although specialization to a specific weapon is preferred.

All competitive fencing bouts are conducted with electrical scoring equipment. In foil and epee the tip of the weapon contains a pressure sensor that signals when the fencer has scored a valid point (touché). This helps the referee keep track of the fast pace action.
